Paramount Theater Gallery Exhibit

Header

Allowing the public to view some of its collection of artist photographs for the first time, The Paramount Theater will host a First Fridays exhibit on Friday, March 2 at 5 pm.  The exhibit will feature the work of Rob Garland Photographers, which has been documenting performances at the theater since the fall of 2006.

Sixteen portrait-size, warm-toned, black and white images depicting The Paramount’s world-class performers during their Charlottesville visits will be on display in the theater’s ballroom, located on the ground level adjacent to the grand lobby.   A special thanks to The Great Frame Up for their efforts.

The First Fridays Exhibit featuring Rob Garland Photographers’ collection of Paramount Theater artist images will be open on March 2 from 5 to 7 pm.  Admission is free.

James Brown

107_james_brown_blog.jpg

I had the opportunity to photograph James Brown less than a year ago (above).  This was a special event since it would turn out to be the last time I had the chance to document a performance from “The Godfather of Soul” at The Pavillion in Charlottesville, Virginia.  I love this photograph becuse it captures the intensity we have all come to expect from this legendary performer (even at 73 years old!!!).  If you ever have the chance to study music, please take the time to listen to James Brown’s work.  He was a true genius (listen to his older records on the King label).  Many people don’t know that James Brown arranged all of the instruments on his records.  There will NEVER be another performer like James Brown and I am so fortunate to have seen him perform three times over the course of my life.

Blake Shelton

Country music superstar, Blake Shelton, gave a great show at The Paramount Theater in Charlottesville.  We had a great time hanging out and ALMOST had him convinced to go with us to a local bar and sing karaoke.  That didn’t happen and Blake was probably better off……I would think that singing with me might have a negative impact on a thriving career.  Below, I have included an image from the show.

Jeff Tweedy

Jeff Tweedy

I photographed Jeff Tweedy, lead singer of the band Wilco, at The Paramount Theater.  The image appeared in the February 8th issue of The Hook.  You can view the review of the show by clicking here.  The show was sponsored by Starr Hill.
